A few years back I tracked down the elusive hanger steak and fell in love. Hangers have a distinct texture and even more so a distinct flavor. I have grilled them, seared them, marinated them and have cooked them sous vide - all are excellent! I have never found these in my area, only online. The price here at American Grazed Beef is the best I have found by far - I have purchased over 100lbs of these for AGB and will continue to purchase. Favorite way to have them is with a homemade asian marinade, similar to Bulgogi using a kiwi in place of an asian pear. Marinate for 4-8 hours and cooked them on the grill or even better over charcoal.
Be aware - They will not look like the pictures here on the site when you take them out of the package. These are untrimmed but that is also the reason for such good pricing, you will have to trim/clean and separate these but it is something that I personally enjoy doing. Out of a 3lb package I would guess you are going to lose .5-.75 lbs. In my opinion, not a big deal at all.
One small draw back but does not lower my rating is that some of the "cryovac" packages are not fully sealed - this appears to be from being moved around as there are punctures after freezing. The "cryovac" seams to be much thinner than what you would get from a typical store which it likely the reason for this. I buy as many of these at a time as I can - I would say 20%-ish are not fully sealed. So, when my shipment comes I open the bags that appear to have this problem and vacuum seal them myself before putting in my freezer - easy fix.
If you haven't tried a hanger you should. If you like hangers, you are not going to find a price anywhere online that comes close to AGB - just make sure you save me some to buy! Cook them to medium rare... medium at the very most (and closer to the medium rare side)
